UCOM Inc. recognized for quality performance

Ucom Inc. was recently honored by the Defense Supply Center Columbus (DSCC) as one of the government's best suppliers at an award ceremony held during the 2006 Land & Maritime Supply Chains Business Conference and Exhibition, Aug 28-30, in Columbus, Ohio.

Brad Borden, Jean Anderson, and Linda Modert accepted the Gold Award from DSCC Commander Adm. Charlie Lilli for the second connecutive year.

"This recognition means we have supplied a quality product the warfighter can be confident in using", said Jean Anderson, Quality Manager.

Firms that qualify as Automated Best Value System (ABVS) award winners have met the stringent quality and delivery requirements established by the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA). The ABVS, a computerized system, collects a vendor's past performance data and translates it into a numeric score, ranging from zero to 100. There were 28 Gold Award winners this year out of 7,300 suppliers. That's 0.38% of DSCC suppliers.

To be eligibale, vendors must have shipped 50 or more contract line items for DSCC during a 12-month period. To qualify for a Gold Award, a contractor must have a perfect score of 100.

DSCC, located in Columbus, Ohio, is known to more than 25,000 military and civillian customers and is teamed with 7,300 suppliers of Land and Maritime weapon system parts. A field activity of DLA, which has its headquarters in Fort Belvoir, Va., DSCC processes more than 6 million orders annually and accounts for more than $3 billion in annual sales.
